In Animal Crossing New Horizons, the Lily of The Valley (LotV) is a mysterious plant (flower) that appears on a south facing cliff once your island has achieved a perfect 5-star rating.

The island’s first spawned Lily of The Valley will have a 50% spawn rate every day as long as your maintain your 5-star rating. This is technically a 93.75% chance of getting your first Lily of The Valley within the first four days of having 5-star island. For subsequent spawns, it takes 4.7 days on average between LotV spawns.

What Does Lily of The Valley Do In Animal Crossing New Horizons?

With it being such a rare and mysterious plant, is there anything that makes it special? The short answer is NO. The following are some facts about Lily of The Valley in the game:

• 1. LotV does not increase the reproduction chance of nearby flowers.

• 2. LotV can not be plucked or trampled.

• 3. LotV can be planted on an island that has 4 star or less

• 4. LotV can not be cloned or bred

• 5. There is no lifetime limit to LotV spawns

• 6. A maximum of 1 Lily of The Valley can spawn per day.

• 7. It can be watered but this has no effect other than the sparkles

• 8. It was called “Jacob’s Ladder” in previous games.

How To Make Lily of The Valley Spawn?

The plant only spawns on a cliff edge. The exact parameters for this condition are not exactly known, but the basic premise is that it will spawn on a free tile on the edge of a visible, south facing cliff. There are also reports of it spawning on the east or west cliff edges.

Only the first LotV has a fixed 50% spawn rate every day. After the first LotV has spawned, subsequent spawns follow the following formula: (Counter) + 6%

When you have a 5-star rating island, the counter increases by 1 every day a LotV has not spawned after the daily Isabelle announcement. The counter is reset during the daily announcement if any of the following conditions are met:

• 1. A Lily of The Valley has spawned

• 2. You have dropped below 5-star rating

This means your star rating only matters during the daily announcement where it is all processed. Any changes during the day are used to determine the spawn percentages or if the counter streak is lost.

These are the spawn conditions of Lily of The Valley: 

• 1. Valid one tile space at the edge of a south facing cliff.

• 2. Maintaining a 5-star rating island

On the 10th day, you are 100% guaranteed to have a Lily of The Valley spawn if you meet the conditions with the counter intact. The rates are shown in the table:

You can get 2 spawns back to back since the counter is incremented before the next LotV has a chance to spawn, provided you maintain your 5 star ratings.
