ACNH Bunny Day 2021 Changes & New Items | Animal Crossing New Horizons Easter Egg Hunt Event Guide

3/18/2021 10:10:12 AM

We're taking a look at ACNH Bunny Day 2021, recapping what we know and focusing on the changes and new items to the event compared to last year. It's an interesting one because a lot of players were hoping for some changes to this event.

Animal Crossing Bunny Day 2021 Changes & New Features

Thanks to Nintendo's announcement about the 1.9.0 update, which revealed a bunch of new content and items coming in the ACNH March 2021 update, which will of course be in time for the first anniversary of Animal Crossing New Horizons. We got our first look at Bunny Day 2021 which is the first recurring event with the original first taking place just after launch last year. For some time we've wondered how Nintendo would handle this event and whether or not they'd be exactly the same every year just like in previous Animal Crossing games, or whether they'd refresh the content and make changes.

ACNH 2021 Bunny Day Items

Thanks to the anniversary update, we know some changes have been made to the event not only to make it more enjoyable for new players, but something fresh for people who have been playing since launch and may have already taken part in the event in the past which is a nice balance now. Here let’s take a close look at the new features of the ACNH Bunny Day 2021 event we will see.

1. Easter Egg Hunt & DIY Bunny Day Themed Items

In terms of the event itself, the mechanics will be pretty much the same as last year. Essentially we'll have to find and collect a bunch of Bunny Day Easter Eggs from all around the island, we can then learn DIY recipes for Bunny Day items as we collect them or trade them with Zipper and other villagers for rewards. Of course if you played last year, you will likely already know the DIY recipes, but it will be a good chance to complete them if you missed any.

2. Shorter Duration of ACNH Bunny Day 2021

Now the first significant change to this reoccurring holiday comes to the duration of the event. This year Bunny Day starts on March 28th and runs through to April 4th which is only 8 days compared to the 12 days last year, so the event is much smaller than before which we think is good news, but it's still plenty of time to find all the Eggs and DIY Recipes you need.

3. High Spawn Rates of Easter Eggs

Another change we know is that the spawn rates or drop rates of the eggs themselves will be much less intrusive and chaotic. They'll still be easy enough to find but won't be overpowering like much of the event last year. This isn't a new change as this was patched in halfway through the previous event but it's good to know expands will be much more balanced from day one of the event.

4. Brand New Bunny Day Items Available On Nook’s Cranny

It seems the Bunny Day rewards for the event will be the same as last year which is great for people who have jumped into Animal Crossing New Horizons since then, but the anniversary announcement also revealed some brand new unique Bunny Day items will be added to the game. We don't know how many new items will be added exactly yet, but we get a sneak peek of the Bunny Day sign - the sign along with the other new Bunny Day items that will be added for this year's event and will be available from the seasonal section of Nook's Cranny and can be purchased every day for the duration of the event. It seems you won't be able to craft these items or earn them as prizes though, which in a way is great news for people who aren't really interested in taking part in the actual event. You can literally just buy the new items from Nooks every day. We'll know more details including what the new Bunny Day items are, once the update has been released we may even find out later on March 18th.

5. Time Disable For Bunny Day 2021

With that said, we do know Bunny Day 2021 will be time-locked even after the Anniversary, Sanrio March update has been released, which is to be expected given that's how Nintendo has been running holidays and events for a while now.

The Nintendo website confirms the eggs won't start spawning until a real-time update has been pushed out just before the start of the event, updating version 1.9 which is this update to version 1.9.0a. Similarly, a second update will take it to version 1.9.0b on Easter Sunday, so it seems both the start of the event for the exam recipes and the final day to meet zipper will both be time-locked separately. So even once the event has started you won't be able to time travel to the final day.

Furthermore, once the update has been installed, you can no longer time travel back to the original Bunny Day in 2020 which is actually really strange and unlike previous versions of the game.

There we have it that's pretty much everything we know for sure about the Bunny Day 2021 event and some of the changes that Nintendo has made so far. More details will be updated here, stay tuned!
